What is Invisalign Comprehensive?
Invisalign Comprehensive (formerly Invisalign Full) is a treatment designed to address more complex orthodontic cases. Unlike Invisalign Express, which comes with seven aligners and Invisalign Lite (14 aligners), there’s no limit to the aligners you will receive when you sign up for Invisalign Comprehensive treatment.
Depending on each patient’s case and requirements, Invisalign Comprehensive can be used to treat an array of conditions, including overcrowding, underbite, overbite, crossbite and overjet (protruding teeth).
If your lifestyle doesn’t allow for fixed braces, or you simply aren’t keen on a fixed brace treatment, Invisalign Comprehensive may be the perfect solution for you.
What to expect from Invisalign Comprehensive treatment?
The treatment begins with a 3D digital scan of your mouth on your very first appointment. Our specialist orthodontist will discuss your case with you during this consultation and provide you with all options suitable for you. Shall you decide to go ahead with Invisalign Comprehensive, we will send the digital scan to Invisalign’s lab. Guided by your orthodontist, Invisalign will create a visual treatment plan for you to see before you begin. You will then have the opportunity to see the produced timelapse video (known as ClinCheck) and discuss it with the orthodontist.
When you confirm that you’re happy with your treatment plan, your custom aligners will be manufactured and sent to us. Our orthodontist will bond small, tooth-coloured attachments to your teeth during your first treatment appointment, which will aid the aligners during the process. You will also receive your first few sets of aligners. You will need to visit the clinic approximately every 6 or 8 weeks for follow-up appointments.
The treatment will include:
- The initial digital scan of your teeth;
- Creation of the treatment plan;
- All of your aligners;
- All of your appointments;
- Phillips Zoom! Teeth whitening home kit;
- Fixed or removable retainers.
What to know before you begin
With Invisalign Comprehensive being designed for complex cases, there’s hardly a set number of months. Most commonly, treatments last between 15 and 24 months. Please note that an array of factors can affect your treatment duration:
- Biological response
While experience allows us to predict the course of most treatments, some teeth may prove more stubborn and delay the treatment. - Lack of compliance
For the treatment to follow the plan, you must wear your aligners for a minimum of 22h a day. If you tend to forget your aligners after a meal, your treatment will inevitably take longer. - Gum issues
Impeccable oral hygiene is one of the most critical requirements for effective orthodontic treatment. However, if a gum infection occurs throughout the process, we must pause all treatment until the issue is resolved.
We believe that it is vital for our patients to understand their treatment and allow for sufficient time. While wearing Invisalign Comprehensive’s aligners, each set gradually pushes your teeth into the desired position. This means that the tooth’s root needs to change its place on the jaw bone. Sufficient time allows the root to calcify properly during movement and secures your overall oral health.
Not allowing sufficient time and attempting to move teeth faster can cause multiple problems as soon as a few months after treatment.
Once your teeth have moved to the desired position, and your Invisalign Comprehensive treatment is complete, you will have to wear retainers. Fixed or removable retainers will hold your teeth in place and not allow them to return to their original position.
Many Invisalign patients comment on having a minor lisp during the first 3 to 4 weeks of treatment, which gradually disappears. Nonetheless, with Invisalign’s removable aligners, you can always take them off if you need to give a presentation, hold a speech, or record a video.
